Year 6 Healthy Habits

30th Jan 2026
Year 6 had a special visit from Maisie’s mum, who is a nurse. She delivered an engaging lesson all about the four key components of a healthy lifestyle: diet, exercise, hygiene and rest.

Pupils learned about the importance of making balanced food choices using the Eatwell Plate and how different food groups help the body stay strong and healthy. They also took part in a heart‑rate experiment, discovering how exercise affects the body and why staying active is essential for overall wellbeing.

One of the highlights of the session was a hygiene activity. Using ‘fake germs’ that glow under a special light, pupils were able to see how germs can remain on hands without proper washing. After washing their hands, they checked again under the light to see how effective their handwashing techniques were.

She also emphasised the need for adequate rest and sleep, helping children understand how vital it is for growth, concentration and overall health.

Thank you to Maisie’s mum for helping our Year 6 pupils learn how to take care of their bodies.
