To celebrate Maths Week, Year 7 received a visit from Tim Roddy, an engineer. Tim informed the pupils of what previous companies he had worked for (New Holland,Ford, Hovis, Devenish) and how he used maths in those various roles to solve problems. He showed us how production lines work and did so by setting real-life word problems about pancake production. Overall the pupils learnt that manufacturing engineers use maths in many ways: to analyse data, optimise processes and make informed decisions to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
Freya’s day was made having her dad educate her peers. A massive thanks to Tim for coming into our school to show us how maths can be used in many different careers.
