Scientific static surprises!
Our P5 classes enjoyed experimenting with static electricity as part of our ‘Light and Sparks’ topic in WAU. We first made our predictions on what objects we thought might be able to be lifted by our statically charged balloons. Then we rubbed balloons on our hair and jumpers to build up static electricity. After that we tested which objects the balloon could attract. We tried a range of materials including Rice Krispies, tissue paper, stones, paper and paper clips. The class noticed that it was the lighter objects, like tissue paper or tin foil that were easier to pick up than heavier items. It was a fun way to explore how static electricity can attract different materials.🎈⚡️
