Pupil Council Celebrate Democracy Week
Our Pupil Council represented primary schools throughout the Mid & East Antrim Area in the Council's recent Democracy Week.
During this week pupils from 17 different primary schools participated in the 'Top Children's Author Election' which took place on World Book Day. More than 1800 pupils from the Borough were challenged to vote for their favourite local author.
On World Book Day the Pupil Council from St. Colmcille's was invited to count and verify the votes, before announcing the overall winner. After much counting, organising and checking votes we were delighted to announce local writer Paddy Donnelly as the winner.
During our visit to the Braid, Deputy Mayor Tyler Hoey welcomed us into the Mayor's Parlour and also showed us the Council Chambers. We heard how Council meetings take place and about the different roles within our Council.
Perhaps some of our Pupil Councillors will progress to local Councillors in the future...
