Measure up to Maths!
20th Oct 2025
From 13th to 17th October, our school was full of excitement as we celebrated Maths Week Ireland! This year’s theme was “Measuring Up to Maths,” and everyone got involved in exploring just how much fun maths can be.
Each class took part in lots of different activities. There was bun baking, maths quizzes, triathlons, and even tower building! We discovered that maths isn’t just something we do with a pencil and paper, it’s all around us.
We were lucky to have some special visitors during the week too. Roy from Sentinus, Dessert Co., Ballymena Credit Union, and Sinead Hamill, a midwife, all came in to talk to our pupils about how they use maths in their jobs. It was amazing to see how important maths is in so many different ways!
Primary 2 had a great time visiting Maggie in the canteen to learn about measuring ingredients. Primary 6 showed off their problem-solving skills in an escape room challenge, and at the end of the week, we finished with our very own Mathlympics! The Primary 4s took part in lots of athletic events, while the Primary 7s were in charge of measuring and recording all the results.
Throughout the week, everyone also had the chance to guess the weight of two pumpkins. Congratulations to our winners, Jack and Eoin, who made the closest guesses!
It was a fantastic week full of fun, teamwork, and learning. Everyone really did “measure up to maths!”
