Ayes To The Right…

30th Jan 2026

Our Pupil Council had a wonderful trip to Stormont with their peers from Carniny Primary School as part of our Shared Education project. We heard about the history of Stormont and learned about how democracy works.

We even had the chance to practise our debating skills in Stormont’s chambers when a motion to do away with school uniforms was proposed. After a lengthy debate, we had to walk through the lobby and through a specific door to indicate whether or not we were in favour of the proposal. Parents and teachers might be pleased to hear that the majority vote wanted to keep our St. Colmcille’s uniform!

MLAs Philip McGuigan and Sian Mulholland came to meet us and gave us some great insights into their roles in the NI Assembly.

Perhaps some of St. Colmcille’s pupils will be returning to Stormont’s chambers in a few years to represent the needs of their local community…
