The ultimate aim of our school is to ensure that every child reaches their true potential. The school has a very strong record of academic excellence. We are the largest feeder primary school to the local grammar school. The pupils’ attainment levels are well above the Northern Ireland average in Literacy and Numeracy.
End of Key Stage Assessment
The DENI has introduced statutory assessment for all pupils in primary school at the key transition stages. Assessment takes the form of continuous assessment by the class teacher in the key learning areas of Language & Literacy and Mathematics & Numeracy. All schools are required to submit portfolios of children’s work to ensure standardisation.
The End of Key Stage 2 results for our pupils are well above the Northern Ireland average.

Transfer to Post-Primary
Pupils in Year 7 choose their post-primary school in February of their final year in primary school. If they wish to attend a grammar school, the pupils must sit two Transfer Test papers (11+) in the autumn term of Year 7. Since 2009 the 11+ has been replaced by Entrance Assessments which are hosted by the grammar schools in November. Grammar schools select their new intake on the outcome of these Assessments. Our pupils perform well above the Northern Ireland average in these Assessments. In the 2010 Entrance Assessments nine of our pupils achieved a combined score in the top 4% of pupils in Northern Ireland – one of our Y7 pupils achieved the highest score in Northern Ireland. This achievement has been replicated every year since – 2011 two pupils; 2012 one pupil; 2013 one pupil; 2014 two pupils; 2015 two pupils achieving the highest score in NI.
